First principal of the United University. d.1876. From Provenance Catalogue: Campbell, after being ordained in the Church of Scotland, went to Kingston, Canada, where he became Professor of Classics. In 1845 he returned to a charge in Perth. Appointed Professor of Greek in King's College in 1854, he became Principal in 1855 and of the [United] University in 1860. He died 1876.
