Cheyne, knt. 1540, created Baron Wriothesley 1544, earl of Southampton 1547, clerk of the Signet 1530-40, j.p. Hants. 1538-46, Grey's Inn 1534, MP Hampshire 1539, 1542, ambassador to Queen of Hungary 1538-9, jt. clerk of the crown and king's attorney, keeper of the great seal 1544, Lord Chancellor 1544-47.
