Humaniste connu pour ses traductions de classiques grecs, en particulier de Plutarque. Originaire de Melun, il occupa la chaire de grec et de latin à l'Université de Bourges où il enseigna pendant dix ans avant de devenir précepteur des enfants royaux.Il fut nommé évêque d'Auxerre par le roi Charles IX en 1570. Sa bibliothèque rassemblait des textes classiques ainsi que des ouvrages religieux. Il posséda plusieurs ouvrages ayant appartenu à Benoît Le Court.
