General Note

Greek scholar. Born in Guernsey 1782, B.A. Cantab. 1804, Charles Burney gave him an introduction to Porson. Fellow of Trinity 1806, M.A. 1807, ordained deacon 1812, priest 1813. When the annotated portion of Porson's library was bought by Trinity College, he was selected with two of his brother fellows, Monk and Blowfield, to edit the MSS. He bequeathed 1000 volumes to the library of his college, but his books with MS notes to that of the university. Professor of Greek at Cambridge, 1823-5.
