Dt. Drucker und Holzschneider
Dt. Drucker; Holzschneider, Schriftgießer u. Verleger aus Hadamar (Nassau); studierte wahrscheinlich 1516-1519 in Mainz, war 1524 vermutlich Schriftgießer bei Wolfgang Köpfel in Straßburg und richtete sich hier 1528 eine Druckerei ein, mit der er ab Dezember 1530 in Frankfurt a. M. tätig war. 1538 errichtete er in Marburg als offizieller Universitätsbuchdrucker eine Filialdruckerei und übernahm hier 1541 auch das Druckmaterial des Cervicornus; 1543 überließ er die Filiale seinem Faktor Andreas Kolbe. Mit seinem ständig wachsenden Druckunternehmen legte Egenolff den Grundstein zu Frankfurts überragender Stellung im deutschen Buchschaffen
