John Walsh (der Ältere) war um 1692 zunächst Instrumentenbauer des Königs, ab 1695 Musikverleger und -drucker und Musikalienhändler. Von 1706-1710 bestand die Partnerschaft mit Peter Randall, die gemeinsamen Publikationen trugen beider Namen. Bis 1730 arbeitete Walsh häufig mit John oder Joseph Hare zusammen, deren Namen ebenfalls im Impressum erschienen. Ab 1730 wurden Verlagsnummern vergeben

Éditeur, imprimeur et marchand de musique ; également facteur et vendeur d'instruments de musique ; facteur ordinaire du Roi (1692). - Né en 1665 ou 1666. Peut-être d'origine irlandaise. Établi à Londres au début des années 1690. Devient facteur ordinaire d'instruments du roi Guillaume III en juin 1692. Emprisonné en 1726 pour n'avoir pas acquitté l'impôt du timbre ; libéré en 1727. Décédé à Londres le 12 ou le 13 mars 1736. Son fils John II Walsh (1709-1766), facteur ordinaire du roi George II à partir de 1731, lui succède
