General Note
Critic and book collector. Born Exeter 1704. Educated Exeter Grammar School, student of Middle Temple 1721 and 1729. Grand tour 1730. Settled in Exeter on his return, began book collecting. Published An Essay towards a Demonstrative Proof of the Divine Existence, Unity, and Attributes, 1740. Town Clerk of Exeter 1752. D.C.L., Oxford, 1762. Published The case of the county of Devon with respect to the consequences of the new excise duty on cyder and perry, 1763, and is attributed with the repeal of the duty in 1766. Died Exeter 1766. His daughter Louisa married in 1775 Joseph Drury, father of Henry Drury.
