Sir, Anwärter auf das Königsamt
Politician and diplomat. Was highly favoured at the court of Elizabeth I, promoted by his uncle, William Cecil, Lord Burghley. On a special mission to Scotland in 1584, he greatly impressed James VI. He had an active and impressive career in Parliament. On the accession of James VI and I he became a gentleman of the privy chamber, and was important in the early parliaments of the king. Hoby was a protestant theologian, collector and scholar.
