Succède au libraire William Mears après lui avoir été associé. Spécialiste des publications scientifiques, particulièrement de mathématiques, et des éditions étrangères, de philosophes notamment. Séjourne à Paris en 1780. Décédé à Kensington en avril 1765. Son frère Charles Nourse puis Francis Wingrave lui succèdent.
