Französischer General und Politiker. Teilhaber der Indischen Kompanie, kämpfte gegen die Briten. Kam 1761 nach der militärischen Niederlage in britische Kriegsgefangenschaft. Nachdem er seine Befreiung erwirkt hatte, wurde er in Frankreich des Hochverrats bezichtigt, in die Bastille geworfen und 1766 zum Tode verurteilt. Unterstützt von Voltaire erwirkte Lallys Sohn Trophime-Gérard de Lally-Tollendal die Wiederaufnahme des Prozesses. Das Todesurteil wurde 1778 annulliert
