Studium der Rechtswissenschaft an den Universitäten Gießen und Heidelberg. - 1848 Hofgerichtsadvokat und Hofgerichtsprokurator in Darmstadt. - 1848 Vorsitzender des Darmstädter Märzvereins. - 1850-1856 und 1862-1874 Mitglied der Zweiten Kammer des Landtags des Großherzogtums Hessen. - 1862 Führer der „Hessischen Fortschrittspartei“ im Landtag, Gründung der Hessischen Landeszeitung und der Mainzeitung. - 1866 verweigerte er als Präsident des Finanzausschusses der Regierung die Kriegskredite. - 1868 Zollparlamentsabgeordneter.
