Georg Matthias Bose (1710-1761) bei der Vorführung einer elektrostatischen Entladung. Bose (links im Bild) lädt eine auf einem Isolierschemel stehende Frau mit Hilfe einer Elektrisiermaschine elektrostatisch auf. Kurz bevor sie die Lippen des rechts von ihr stehenden Mannes berührt, entlädt sich die Elektrizität in einem Funken. Vorführungen dieser Art waren im 18. Jahrhundert ein beliebtes Mittel, das Publikum durch Naturphänomene zu belustigen und in Erstaunen zu versetzen.
