Found inHistory of Northumberland, 1896, v.3 pt.1 p.265-6="John Errington of Beaufort undertook to provide Hexham with a bridge ... the new bridge was successfully completed in 1780, and opened on the 1st of July in that year". 1782.3.10 this bridge was destroyed; it was resolved not to restore it on the same plan, and the design of Robert Mylne was adopted instead
