Variante(s) de prénom : Jonas. - Libraire. - Fils d'un mercier de Sandbach (Cheshire) et apparemment sans lien de proche parenté avec les imprimeurs William I et II Bowyer ; en apprentissage chez le libraire londonien Thomas I Bennet d'avril 1696 à nov. 1703. Succède en 1705 au libraire William Hawes à l'enseigne de la Rose. Encore en activité en 1726-1727. Sa veuve, Christiana Bowyer, est attestée en mai 1728 (elle quittance alors un apprenti reçu par son défunt mari)
