Teilhaber der Verlagsbuchhandlung Treuttel & Würtz in Paris. Neffe, Schwager und ab 1806 Schwiegersohn von Johann Georg Treuttel, mit dem er ab 1785 eine Buchhandlung in Straßburg führte, ab 1795 auch in Paris. Die Firma firmierte ab 1796 unter dem Namen "Treuttel et Würtz". 1817 wurde ein weiteres Geschäft in London eröffnet. Teile seiner Büchersammlung wurden 1841 zusammen mit einem Teil der Büchersammlung von Adolphe Audenet versteigert.
