General Note

Seit 1780 in Wien, dann in Graz. Kehrte 1801 nach Würzburg zurück, arbeitete 1802-1804 zusammen mit seinem Bruder Kaspar Stahel; 1818 traten Joseph Stahels älteste Söhne Johann Konrad und Joseph Ignaz Stahel in das Geschäft ein, um 1832 zog sich Joseph Ignaz Stahel zurück, für ihn übernahmen sein jüngerer Bruder Karl die Mitdirektion; der jüngste Bruder Ludwig Stahel eröffnete 1844 eine eigene Buchhandlung, die nach seinem Tod 1848 mit dem Stammgeschäft verschmolzen wurde
