On a tablet the words Love and Lyve, and on two scrolls the words Nosce te ipsum and Ne quid nimis. Across the device the name BAL-D WIN. (α) As described. Passed to John Charlewood at an unknown date. (β) "BAL" and "WIN" cut away. Passed to James Roberts in 1593. The intermediate history of the block is obscure. Passed from William to Isaac Jaggard in 1623, and from Isaac to Thomas and Richard Cotes in 1627.
